The program for the Mister Triple X presentation at NYFW describes this season’s collection as “an edgy fairytale,” and invites us to “follow the brand down the rabbit hole.”

The thing is this particular rabbit you’re following down the hole is covered in chains and chest straps and getting ready for a wild night on the town. The jackets and patterned pants in the collection are perfect for clubbing or everyday upscale street wear, but for the show that perfectly styled jacket you could wear everyday is paired with an intricate chest strap draped on a chiseled male model.
While some of the MisterTX stuff definitely veers to the outrageous, everything here is workable; paired on the runway with shoes from Sperry Top-sider the looks could almost veer toward preppy. In and of itself Mister Triple X is an exciting brand, but this was a special show, part of the Art Hearts Fashion presentation raising awareness for the Aids Healthcare Foundation and presenting collections from several other notable rising designers, including MTCostello, House Of Byfield and Mimi Tran. And both Art Hearts and Mister Triple X come from designer Erik Rosete; MisterTX is his brand, but he also created and produces the Art Hearts event.

This show also brought the curtain down on New York Fashion Week’s time at Lincoln Center; when the shows return next season it will be at another venue. Mister Triple X and the ideas presented by the other designers in here point a way forward, and definitely ended NYFW with some flair. What a way to go.
