Nick Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame, will headline the Pittsburgh Pride in the Street event on Saturday on Liberty Avenue, Downtown. He replaces Iggy Azalea, who pulled out after controversy arose over past tweets considered to be racist and homophobic.
In addition to Mr. Jonas, other performers include DJ Digital Dave, DJ Strobe, Thea Trix, Chance Encounters and Steel Pan Pittsburgh.
Tickets are $35 (including taxes and fees) and are on sale now at pittsburghpride.org/tickets or by calling 888-71-TICKETS. Existing ticket holders who keep their tickets will receive two beverage tickets at the gate. Requests for refunds for Iggy Azalea must be submitted by 8 a.m. on Friday, to www.pittsburghpride.org/refund.
“Nick had heard about Pittsburgh Pride in the media and called us on Tuesday and said he would like to come and perform,” said Gary Van Horn, president of presenting nonprofit Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh, in a statement. “He has been a supporter of the LGBT community, and he wanted to make sure that the community and Pittsburgh had a Pride event that they could be proud of.”
“When I heard about the difficult position Pittsburgh Pride was in just days before their event, I knew I had to find a way to help,” said Mr. Jonas.
“I’m excited to do what I can to support the LGBT community in Pittsburgh, and I look forward to seeing you this Saturday as we celebrate together.”
In 2002, Mr. Jonas contributed a song to the annual Broadway “Equity Fights AIDS” album, Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4.
