Sunday night I traversed through the slippery snow storm to see Brazilian designer Alessandra Meskita’s debut at the Lincoln Center’s Salon for her collection, Meskita. Meskita’s collection was inspired by the 100-year anniversary of Beverly Hills and the Chinese zodiac Year of the Horse. This combination created a collection of looks that mixed Hollywood glamour, sleek lines and functional fabrics, such as neoprene, chiffon, and leather.
Fitted neoprene jackets and swimsuits were the go-to look for this show. Corset-like belts completed several of the outfits, acting as further emphasis for the fitted silhouettes. More feminine dresses, also made of the voluminous neoprene, appeared in the sea of almost scuba-inspired pants and jackets. Sunglasses were the primary accessory of choice, another reason why it seems Meskita was appealing to a customer of warmer climates. Colours remained pretty neutral in the beginning, mostly dominated by black, tan, beige, navy blue and salmon pink. The models skin looks dewy and flawless with an extreme cat-eye by Bobbi Brown’s lead makeup artist, Rogelio Reyna paired with sleek high ombréd pony tails that stayed true to the zodiac theme.
“It’s a woman that’s powerful, elegant, beautiful, sexy, that travels the world,” Meskita says. “She likes to wear nice and comfortable clothes at all occasions.”
With a front row sprinkled with celebrities Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Guillermo Diaz, Erin Brady and one of my inspirations Joe Zee; Hollywood is definitely watching and ready to wear!
