Androgyny refers to the combination of masculine and feminine characteristics, sexual ambiguity found in fashion and sexual lifestyle like the experimenting talents of Max.Tan’s designs. They combine geometric forms and silhouettes concealing the wearer’s form and creating a new shape altogether. His collections are for women with an artistic or intellectual bent.
In this year’s spring – summer collection creative director Max draws inspiration from the forest. Illustrations combining metal, wood, conflicting spaces and textures. When inspecting his designs, we can see details of garments that seem to be falling apart, sort of speak, but when viewed in its entirety, they reflect an order in chaos that we often see in nature.
For Fall – Winter 13 this brilliant designer proposes a futuristic ninja warrior with solid black – red fabrics, cuts that are amazingly innovative and playful, daring traditional wardrobe construction. Max stays true to his form and dwells between a fine line of enigmatic gender with every piece of this collection.
The designer describes himself more as a garment engineer rather than a fashion designer. He graduated at the top of his Fashion Design class in 2006, at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and he went on to show his first collection at Singapore’s Fashion Week in 2007.
Today, Max.Tan designs are stocked in multi-label retail outlets in Singapore, as well as in major department stores like Isetan, with branches throughout Japan and East Asia. XEX magazine is excited to be part of the global discovery of what promises to be a ground breaking fashion supremacy.
